Quaternary Studies: Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Canyonlands National Park

Agenbroad LD. 1986. Quaternary Studies: Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Canyonlands National Park. Northern Arizona University. Flagstaff, AZ

Bechan Cave contains important Quaternary dung deposits which provide considerable information about early animals, vegetation, climate, and more. The first year's research investigated the alluvial record. Cycles of erosion and deposition were recorded in this material, and charcoal, plant and animal remains provided C-14 samples, used in formulating a chronology. Paleohydrologic investigation, pollen studies, packrat midden analyses and study of paleontological remains were also conducted.
