The author was invited to Mammoth Cave National Park to help determine the severity of the radon concentrations hazards in the caves of the park. Methodology is described and sampling results are listed in attached tables. A discussion of observations and results is presented along with conclusions and recommendations. Sampling was conducted along the Historic, Scenic, Bicentennial (Gothic Avenue), Wild Cave, and Lantern tour routes in Mammoth Cave as well as New Discovery, White's, Crystal, Great Onyx, Hicks, and Hidden River Caves. The radon- thoron-daughter concentrations were higher this survey than during the April 1976 survey of Mammoth Cave. Recommendations include: 1) radiation sampling and maintenance of exposure records for all employees should continue; 2) the ban on smoking should continue; 3) education of underground personnel regarding radiation hazard should continue; and 4) sputum cytology studies of some of the long-term employees should be continued.
