This is a combined U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game report on radio-tagged rainbow trout in the Naknek drainage. A total of 46 rainbow trout were tagged with radio transmitters in 1984. Twenty-five were tagged in the Naknek River and 21 in the Brooks River. Intermittent radio tracking was conducted over a one-year period. Most tagged fish in the Naknek River ascended into Naknek Lake. Tagged Naknek fish were not located in any other tributary to Naknek Lake. Tagged Brooks River fish did not travel great distances from the Brooks River drainage. Data suggests that Brooks and Naknek rainbows are separate populations that do not share habitat to any significant degree.
