In 1974 and 1975, 70 bears were snared and injected with radioactive materials, lip tattooed, and basic biological information was collected.Of the 353 bear scats collected along the six index routes, 69 contained a radioisotope tag. Using the Schnabel technique, the population was estimated at 118 bears for 1974 and 129 for 1975. These estimates agreed with others using different methods. The population density was one bear per 3.03 square kilometers in 1974 and one bear per 2.77 square kilometers in 2875.
