This study was carried out on Shell-Crooked Island barrier system, 25km east of Panama City, FL. It contains maps and aerial photographs that permit the dating of dune ridges. There were 8 transects placed across the barrier islands that was used to determine sampling of topography and vegetation. Vegetation was found to respond according to the amount of protection received from dune ridges. For instance, Uniola paniculata is replaced by Schizachyrium maritimum within 2 - 17 years after dune migration and a more seaward protecting ridge occurs. The article contains numerous maps and photographs noting dune and shoreline changes. There is also a table containing an extensive listing of vegetation occurring on the barrier island system.
