This study documents the recent movement in the Redwood Creek channel of large amounts of sediment (associated especially with heavy storms and logging activity). Cross sectional studies show large changes in channel shape since the early 1950's. Erosion and degradation in the upper reaches has resulted in aggradation in downstream sections. Recovery may begin if flows remain moderate and no additional large sediment loads occur. Transport rates at the time of this investigation were about 40 percent less than those just before 1978. Cross section details are presented for 10 reaches. The 36 figures include a number of black-and-white photographs showing various reaches (aerial/ground), cross section drawings and graphs, and channel drawings. Four tables show peak and longterm discharges, calculated values of channel changes, and relationship of changes to flow. Appendices are 'Measured changes at channel cross sections' and 'Summary of streamflow recorded on Redwood Creek at Orick.'
