A reconnaissance of the effects of a forest fire on water quality in Kings Canyon National Park, California

The study examines changes in water quality resulting from two fires in the Roaring River drainage. Field measurements of alkalinity, pH, specific conductance, temperature, and discharge were made at points upstream and downstream from the two burned areas. Chemical, physical, and biological factors were analyzed in the laboratory. Results indicate an increase in the concentration of nitrogen, but other water-quality measurements appear to show no impact.
