This data depicts the outer edges of the developed areas within Big Bend National Park. The purpose of the information is to accurately define the extent of development disturbance, and to define acreage of development disturbance. Developed areas are defined as: Areas in and around housing areas, stores, motels, ranger stations, and campgrounds, including trails roads, electric line right-of-ways, water line corridors, sewer line corridors, sewage treatment plants, or any other infrastructure that relates directly to the use of the housing and campgrounds. The roads, trails and utility line corridors between areas of housing, campgrounds, sewage treatment plants, etc. are included; the roads, trails and utility corridors entering and exiting the housing and campground areas from other parts of the park are NOT included. Developed areas are centered around parts of the park intended for overnight occupancy. Areas such as Hot Springs, which are NOT intended for overnight occupancy ARE NOT included in the developed areas of the park.
