Alex BL and Alex B. Fire Management Units (NAD83) at Big Bend National Park, Texas. Big Bend National Park GIS Program

This data depicts the Fire Management Units delineated in the Big Bend National Park Wildland Fire Management Plan. Fire Management Units (FMUs) are areas managed using appropriate strategies chosen to meet specific fire management objectives which relate to the natural, cultural, and human resources of the unit. The strategies for each unit have been selected after consideration of the prevailing terrain, accessibility, vegetation, proximity to developed areas, boundary constraints, protection of human life and property, potential fire behavior, and fire effects. Distinct fire management subunits have been delineated within each FMU to facilitate the decision-making process regarding fire in that subunit.
