A shapefile of the areas of impact on the tower top at Devils Tower National Monument created from GPS data. Disturbance on the summit was characterized as severe, moderate or low. Severely disturbed areas were those in which human traffic had resulted in destruction of all vegetation and in which visible erosion had occurred. Moderately disturbed areas were those in which vegetation was present but reduced in both total cover and in stature. Those areas showed little or no evidence of erosion. Areas of low disturbance showed signs of occasional human passage (footprints, etc.) but vegetation appeared undamaged and there was no evidence of erosion.
