The Backcountry Campsite Survey took place during the years of 1997 - 2000. Differentially corrected GPS data were collected primarily on foot for all existing maintained on-trail campsites within the boundaries of Yellowstone National Park (YNP). The backcountry campsites locations that could not be obtained through the GPS survey were acquired through the uses of 1- meter DOQQs (Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quads) and the assistance of backcountry rangers with knowledge of where the campsites are located. There are also associated GPS data for trails, bridges, and patrol cabins. There are several campsites missing from this layer, as this is a work in progress (please see the Completeness Report in the Data Quality Information Section).
