Snowfall Cumulative Values of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho (Polys)

Spatial Analysis Center - Yellowstone National Park. Snowfall Cumulative Values of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho (Polys). Spatial Analysis Center, Yellowstone National Park

The average annual snowfall was calculated from Snow Course (SC) data from the 15-year base period of 1958 to 1972. The standard for comparing climactic and hydrologic data is to use a 15-year period. Elevation versus average annual snowfall curves was used to determine the elevation at which equal increments of snowfall would occur using various profiles across the drainages. Isohyetal lines (lines of equal snowfall) were drawn connecting known points of annual precipitation. These estimates show correlation with standard precipitation gages and provide the best available estimates of precipitation throughout Yellowstone's remote backcountry areas.
