Fire Management Units (FMUs) are used as a planning tool within the Point Reyes National Seashore Fire Management Environmental Impact Statement and Fire Management Plan. FMUs encompass lands with similar attributes when viewed from a fire planning and management perspective. Generally, an FMU covers an area where management concerns, objectives and constraints are the same, and includes several habitat types. These polygons do not represent burn units or project areas, rather each FMU is likely to contain several burns and/or mechanical fuel treatment projects over the course of several years.
