Farrell J. 2002. Observer Visibility Analysis for Appomattox Court House NHP GMP Areas of Concern.. Bill Slocumb
Observation points were placed throughout the park used to define points for viewshed analysis. The ArcGRID VISIBILITY function was used with the OBSERVERS option using a 10 meter DEM created by resampling a standard 30 meter USGS DEM. Information contained in the data is a binary-encoded value which can be decoded to identify the # of each observation point that can see each grid cell. A new item named OBSn is created in the VAT for each observer n in the input point coverage. The OBSn item will is assigned a value of 1 if the grid cell can be seen by observer n, or a value of 0 if it cannot be seen.
