Agate Fossil Beds began a program in 1997 to control Canada Thistle. The program includes mowing, spraying herbicide and release of insects to weaken the plants. The goal of the thistle project has been to reduce the density and area that the thistle covers. In 2002, monitoring transects were established to develop estimates of thistle density.
