Mississippi NRRA Landcover (missldcg)
Budde P. 1996. Mississippi NRRA Landcover (missldcg). NPS Midwest Field Area
Landcover grid of Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. This raster maplayer was derived from Landsat TM satellite imagery dated June 6, 1988. Spectral bands 2,3,4, and 5 were used to classify the data into 118 spectral classes using an unsupervised technique in ELAS. The data were then transferred into GRASS format, where the 118 classes were reclassed into 12 preliminary landcover categories with the aid of 1 inch equals 800 feet scale black and white aerial photos. GIS separations were then used to further lump these categories into 9 final landcover categories. This landcover classification has not been ground-truthed, but persons familiar with the area believe it to be a good representation of what is actually on the ground. The classification process is recorded in more detail in a separate notebook entitled, MNRRA Landcover Classification. Contacts for this maplayer are Miki Stuebe, NPS-Denver Service Center - TCE and Ralph Root, NPS WASO-GISD.
