Preliminary field work for this study begin in July, 1966, at which time a general reef survey and coral collection was started form all major reef environments of Tumon Bay region of Guam. In February, 1967, there was evidence of "crown-of-thorns" starfish, Acanthaster planci multiplying, resulting in the death of large numbers of reef corals in the Tumon Bay. During the study of Tamon Bay 27 field trips were made and 429 coral specimens were collected, including detailed habitat data. Additionally, physical and biological parameters were mapped and described. A checklist of corals observed and collected during the survey of Tamon Bay is included.
