Geographic information systems and data collected from monitoring radio-collared wolves in northern Wisconsin were used to determine the extent of favorable wolf habitat in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Significant variables affecting wolf recolonization included land ownership class, land cover type, road density, human population, patch boundary complexity, landscape diversity, and landscape dominance.
