Author examines the relationship between surface water conditions in Everglades National Park on spoonbill foraging grounds/habitat use and reproductive success; and to evaluate the influence of C-111 (canal) management on the foraging grounds and breeding of the spoonbills. Has sections on 1) hydrology: surface water level and rainfall throughout the C-111 basin and canal discharge; 2) wading bird foraging distribution, reproduction, and abundance throughout south Florida; 3) reproductive parameters - i.e., rainfall, water level, air temperature-of spoonbills in Florida Bay. Gives extensive recommendations for water management, habitat management, and monitoring of spoonbills. Discusses mercury contamination, and human disturbance. Includes many tables/graphs/maps of data on hydrology and spoonbill numbers.
