Antietam National Battlefield Park Fire History 1986 - 1999

GIS Specialist Antietam National Battlefield Park. 2003. Antietam National Battlefield Park Fire History 1986 - 1999. National Park Service, Antietam National Battlefield Park

The fire history datasets represent the extents of fires at Antietam National Battlefield Park from 1983 through the 1999 fire season. Fire perimeters were created from the best available data source. In cases were a perimeter was not documented for a fire approximate fire perimeters were created. To create these approximated polygons, a circle was created around the reported fire location (point). The circle was created to have the same area as the Controlled acreage reported on the fire occurrence report. These polygons are only approximations of where fire may have occurred, but still may be useful in research and planning. All types of fires; suppression, prescribed, and Wildland fire use fires are included in the dataset. This data are maintained at the Park level to track the area affected by fire. The data set includes all fire that have been documented that fall entirely or partially within the park's administrative boundaries regardless of land ownership, agency responsible for the fire, or type of fire (natural, prescribed, arson). The fire history points represent the location of fires at Antietam National Battlefield Park from 1986 through the 1999 fire season. All types of fires; suppression, prescribed, and wildland fire use fires are included in the data sets. The data set includes all fire points that have been documented in 1202 reports, the SACS database or other maps or documents, that fall entirely or partially within the park's administrative boundaries regardless of land ownership, agency responsible for the fire, or type of fire (natural, prescribed, arson).
