An experiment with a random block design was used to test for the effects of ATV type used, season of use, and intensity of use on microtopographic relief; abrasion, breakage, and compression of shrubs; sedge tussock compression; and exposure of organic soil. Two hundred 2.5 m x 30 m lanes were established in six rows with 25-39 lanes per row. Each lane was used for a particular treatment combination of ATV type (six-wheel Argo, three-wheel Honda, four-wheel Honcho, Weasel with rubber tracks and metal cleats, Sidewinder with tracks installed, and six-wheel Sidewinder), traffic intensity level (10, 50, and 150 passes), and season of use (spring thaw, all summer, summer rerun, and hunting season).
