This vector data depicts planned (future/draft) and completed (past/final) mechanical fuel reduction treatments in Glacier National Park, Montana from July 2001 until present. Fuel reduction work (generally to protect structures from wildfire) was completed by hand using chainsaws and handtools and biomass was burned on site in piles or hand carried to vehicles for off site transport to remote burn piles. Work completed by Glacier's staff, contractors, fire crews on active incidents and outside resources assisting with project work is represented. Polygons reflect only areas where some level of thinning occured and do not communicate the standards or the intensity of the thinning that was completed there. The areas furthest from structures generally underwent very light thinning while those closest to structures saw the removal of more stems and greater limbing.
