This dataset contains one kilometer transects that run approximately perpendicular to the Maryland portion of Assateague Island National Seashore. It can be used in a variety of research projects but has been primarily used in the Assateague Island National Seashore Geomorphological Monitoring Program that was initiated in 1995. Surface elevations and coordinates are recorded along 22 beach profile transects in a spring, and a fall survey. Ten new monuments and transects were established on the North End in 1999 for a Piping Plover habitat study. There are no profile transects in the Virginia section of Assateague.
