Global NPS Building Attribute Table
2006. Global NPS Building Attribute Table. NPS GIS-Committee
This proposed attribute table encompasses all buildings of interest to the National Park Service, including those not owned by the NPS but located within authorized park boundaries and facilities leased by the NPS and cooperators located outside park boundaries. Only structures with a roof, commonly enclosed by walls, and designed for storage, human occupancy, or shelter for animals are included. Other structures not designed for occupancy such as fences or bridges are excluded. Buildings include offices, warehouses, post offices, hospitals, prisons, schools, housing and storage units. Attribute data are populated for each building. The means to maintain unique identifiers for each building (BLDG_ID) is through use of a Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) assigned by the database. The BLDG_ID links to unique building geometries in the associated geometry data transfer standards and to data from external database systems as detailed in the NPS Building Implementation Plan. The UNIT_CODE field links the building to an NPS park, network, region or office. The local NPS name for a building is maintained in the COM_NAME field. Relationships to The National Map are achieved via the BLDG_FCODE and ADMIN_TYPE attributes. Inclusion of these attributes allows NPS to contribute to The National Map effort.
