This examination of timber lands in the area of the present Redwood National Park, California, records 'the effects of timber harvesting and subsequent land management on soil stability and sedimentation' and provides such recommendations as seeding a cover crop following clearcuts, proper construction of the waterbars used to reduce gullying, logging in the smallest (patch) units possible, and adequate sediment sampling. The report briefly describes the soils and other physical features, and gives details of the conditions seen on individual units. Some earth sliding and suspended sediment are noted for particular areas. Damaging effects of clearcuts are described, along with some measures taken by the Arcata Redwood Company that help reduce the inevitable effects of soil and forest disturbance.
