The dataset is an ARC/INFO coverage of the trails at White Sands National Monument (WHSA), New Mexico, as they were configured in 1998. The trails were mapped using a handheld Magellan 4000XL GPS unit. The data, however, were not differentially corrected and were collected during the time Selective Availability was in place, therefore the recorded positions of the trails may be inaccurate up to as much as 100 meters. In addition, some of these trails exist only as a series of trail markers in a shifting dunefield, and the layout of these trails may have been altered since this dataset was created.
