The dataset is an ARC/INFO coverage of observed stands of the invasive, non-native plant tamarisk (also called salt cedar) within White Sands National Monument (WHSA), New Mexico. The locations shown were current in 1998. Also noted was the age, size, and overall health of plants in the stand, whether the stand was located on a gypsum sand "pedestal", whether the stand was treated with herbicide (applied to smooth bark) in 1997 or 1998, and whether or not the stand might be best treated with a foliar herbicide spray. The tamarisk stands were mapped as points using a handheld Magellan 4000XL GPS unit. The data, however, were not differentially corrected and were collected during the time Selective Availability was in place, therefore the recorded positions of the tamarisk may be inaccurate up to as much as 100 meters.
