The results of a study conducted in 1979 regarding the outbreak of Acanthaster planci on Tutuila, American Samoa. Main conclusion of the study was that extra heavy rainfall or strong winds following a drought are a major factor causing infestation. During January 23 to October 25, 1979 a bounty program to remove Acanthaster planci took place. Controlling the infestation was an expensive and overwhelming project to attempt.
