The 1973 map of "Major Ecosystems of Alaska" shows the distribution of nine classes of ecosystems within a single hierarchic level. Scale of coverage is 1:250,000. The focus of the ecosystems map is on the regional distribution of vegetation community type and structure. Information relating to other landscape characteristics, such as topography, hydrology, and climate, is considered only so far as it influences ecosystem type.
