Florissant Fossil Beds NM - Vegetation Map Geodatabase

First revision of the Vegetation Map product produced by the USGS and delivered to the NPS in 2004 and is a refinement from the original delivered dataset. This Vegetation Map is the first revision of the Vegetation Map product produced by the USGS and delivered to the NPS in 2004. It reflects a major cleanup and refinement from the original delivered dataset. Among the major improvements is the ability to update the map (both polygon attributes and create/retire polygons), yet still keep track of those changes through time.This current Vegetation Map will be regularly updated and improved - Users should confirm whether this is the up-to-date version.The vegetation units on this map were determined through the stereoscopic interpretation of aerial photographs supported by field sampling and ecological analysis. The vegetation boundaries were identified on the photographs by means of the photographic signature and collateral information on slope, hydrology, geography, and vegetation in accordance with the Standardized National Vegetation Classification System (October 1995). The mapped vegetation reflects conditions that existed during the specific year and season that the aerial photographs were taken. There is a margin of error inherent in the use of aerial photographs. Therefore, a detailed ground and historical analysis of a single site may result in a revision of the vegetation alliance boundaries established through photographic interpretation.
