This site is one of a large group treated during major rehabilitation efforts in the Redwood Creek basin, Redwood National Park, California. Goals for the ongoing program are removal of former logging roads and restoration of natural habitat and conditions. This report describes the erosion control work (diversion of water with waterbars, impoundment of sediment, and re-establishment of vegetation) at the Whiskey Forty site. Brief sections discuss separate areas representing the different skid trails and roads treated. The report indicates the importance of waterbars, and in particular the value of those installed at the time of logging. Recommendations include several for further treatment. Appendices: constructing a rough checkdam (tools, procedure), sketch map of trial planting, marked copy of aerial photograph, 12 small photographs showing gullies, checkdams, waterbars, and construction activity.
