ARCN00020: Arctic Network Bird Inventory Sample Points
Shorebird Project US Geological Survey, Alaska Science Center. ARCN00020: Arctic Network Bird Inventory Sample Points. Dan Ruthrauff
ARCN_sample_points is a summary of the 1,652 locations at which bird surveys were conducted from 2001-2003 during US Geological Survey's NPS-sponsored Inventory and Monitoring project "Inventory of montane-nesting birds in National Parks of Northwest Alaska". Surveys consisted of 15-minute long point counts wherein all bird species detected within an unlimited distance of the observer were noted. Survey points were allocated within each 10 X 10 km study block in proportion to the total area of subsection type within each block, and the actual locations were selected in the field based on accessibility (both via foot and helicopter) and logistical constraints. Typically, 24 survey points were allocated per study block, and points were conducted in Cape Krusenstern NM, Gates of the Arctic NPP, Kobuk Valley NP, and Noatak NP.
