NCPN Inventory, Birds, 4 Parks

2003. NCPN Inventory, Birds, 4 Parks. Northern Colorado Plateau Network, Inventory and Monitoring Program

This two-year inventory of birds in four park units (Cedar Breaks NM, Fossil Butte NM, Golden Spike NHS, Timpanogos Cave NM) of the Northern Colorado Plateau Network of the NPS was designed to provide baseline data for and documentation of at least 90% of bird species expected to be present in those units. In 2001-2002, parks were surveyed during the breeding and non-breeding seasons using point counts, incidental surveys, and area searches. Parks were visited 3-4 times during the breeding season from mid-May to mid-July, 2001 and 2002, and at least twice during non-breeding from December through February 2001-2003. Nocturnal species were determined using taped broadcasts. No voucher specimens were collected. Park status, abundance, residency and nativity were determined for each bird species. There were 59 species detected at Cedar Breaks NM, 91 species at Fossil Butte NM, 56 species at Golden Spike NHS and 50 species detected at Timpanogos Cave NM. Species of special concern and critical habitats were identified within each Park unit.
