NCPN Inventory, Birds, BLCA and CURE
2003. NCPN Inventory, Birds, BLCA and CURE. Northern Colorado Plateau Network, Inventory and Monitoring Program
Glen Giroir, of the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory (RMBO), coordinated avian inventories in 2002 and 2003 at BLCA and CURE, by establishing a series of habitat-stratified point counts and line transects using distance sampling methodology in each of the major habitat types at these two parks. The program, DISTANCE, was used to analyze the distance data and calculate population densities among the different habitat types for those species with sample sizes greater than 19 individual detections. GPS technology was used to describe the distribution of each species' detections. Surveys were also conducted for wintering, migratory, and nocturnal bird species by conducting point counts along drivable roads. In BLCA, field workers detected 74 species, with 90 species detected in CURE.
