The study site of Puukohola Heiau National Historic Site (PUHE) was divided into four study areas: Administration, Midlands, Pond, and Shore. Three species of shorebirds were observed during the surveys: Sanderling (Calidris alba), Wandering Tattler (Heteroscelus incanus), Pacific Golden-Plover (Pluvialis fulva), and one waterbird, the Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax hoactli). The Black-crowned Night-Heron was the most commonly observed bird of these surveys.
