Elevation points digitized from the 1962 Assateague Island, Maryland Topographic Maps
Assateague Island National Seashore. 2008. Elevation points digitized from the 1962 Assateague Island, Maryland Topographic Maps. Maryland State Roads Commission Project 62-2
In 1962, the Maryland State Roads Commission Project created a detail topographic map of the Maryland portion of Assateague Island. This series of hard-copy maps, portrayed at a scale of 1" = 100', were stored in the library of Assateague Island National Seashore. Beginning in the summer of 2007, a project was undertaken to scan, georeference, and digitizing information from these maps into a digital, GIS-ready format. This dataset is one final product from this project, portraying specific points with known elevations. Although the specific methodology for documenting these points is unknown, the maps state that they are based off of aerial photography, collected on May 6, 1962.
