Zooplankton Communities and Biomass in Gates of the Arctic National Park and Noatak National Preserve July 2005 and 2006

This dataset provides information about zooplankton community composition and biomass in 12 lakes in Gates of the Arctic National Park during late July 2005 and 8 lakes in the Noatak National Preserve during early to mid July 2006. Zooplankton were collected from multiple starta (epilimnion, metalimnion and hypolimnion) using a high-efficiency Wisconsin-style closing net (80-micron mesh). Biomass was calculated using length-weight regression equations (Downing and Rigler, Persson and Eckbohm 1980, Bottrell et al 1976, Rosen 1981, Yurista 2001). Zooplankton were collected by Chris Luecke from Utah State University under a cooperative agreement. We used a multiparmater instrument (Hach Hydrolab) to obtain vertical profiles of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, specific conductivity and relative chlorophyll fluorescence, on the same dates that zooplankton were sampled. These data are aslo stored on the NPS data store. Concentrations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus in the epilimnion were determined and are also available on the NPS data store.
