CIRO/CRSP-Updated fence line layer with 2010 field collected fence lines and Gates. Updates by Meghan Lonneker-UCBN field data provided by Kristin Bastis-CIRO. Addition of three new fields in the table include: status, condition and year. Data dictionary protocol is as follows: 1. Date: Required - Date must be recorded so there is a record of the fence condition at a certain time 2. Collector: Required - Important so questions can be referred back to the data collector 3. Location: Optional - Gives the analyzer of the data an idea of the location of the fences 4. Post Mat (Post material): Required - There are a number of choices to choose from: Juniper; Metal; Juniper/Metal (majority of line is juniper); Metal/Juniper (majority of line is metal); Other (input other material in comments category) 5. Post Con (Post condition) - The ratings are as follows: Very good - brand new posts, all standing erect; Good - Older posts but all erect; Fair - Older post need replacing - a few leaning over; Poor - old posts - need replacing - a lot of leaning posts; Very poor - Most posts laying on ground, rotten. 6. Wire (# of strands - or other material) 2 strands, 3 strands, 4 strands, 5 strands, 6 strands, Wood (Planks), Other (Add material in comments) 7. Wire Con (Wire condition) - The ratings are as follows: Very good - brand new wire, firmly stretched, razor sharp; Good - Older wire, all stretched, rusty, few mends, no holes; Fair - Older wire, lots of mends, a few holes but will hold cattle in place for the most part; Poor - old wire, lots of mends, lots of holes, down strands, cattle can get through in places; Very poor - Most wire on ground, will not hold cattle in place 8. Comments - A column to input any other remark while collecting fence line data
