This draft data transfer standard describes a proposed structure for cultural resource surveys depicted as points. Multiple feature geometries may coexist for the same survey as a result of different field methods. e.g. trenches and shovel test pits dug in the same survey; or the manner in which a survey is protrayed, e.g. as a series of transects (lines) or a perimeter (polygon) encompassing the transects. All surveys identified on cultural resource inventories of the National Park Service are covered by this data transfer standard. Attribute data are intentionally limited to those necessary for spatial data maintenance and feature level metadata. Data from external database systems are intended to link with these data to provide basic feature attributes. The means to maintain unique identifiers for each survey, Survey_ID, as well as unique geometries associated with that feature (Geometry_ID) are through the use of Globally Unique Identifiers (GUIDs) assigned by the database. Information about the genesis of individual points is documented by feature level metadata fields in the spatial attribute table.
