The Indiana bat (Myotis sodalis) has been recognized as an endangered species since 1966 and is protected by the Endangered Species Act of 1973. Eight Priority I and 20 Priority 2 Hibernacula are known to exist. The Indiana Bat Recovery Plan calls for a monitoring system whereby each accessible Priority I hibernaculum, and at least one-half of the Priority 2 hibernacula, are censused every 2 years. The recovery team also recommended that, for consistency through time and comparability of estimates among the populations, one person should conduct all of the Priority I cave censuses. Report covers bat hibernacula caves in Kentucky, Indiana and Missouri.
