Fire history (point of origin) for wildland fires occurring on lands of Acadia National Park from 1937 through 2009. Points represent the approximate locations of fire origins. Only fires of type 1 (suppression), type 2 (natural outs), or type 4 (prescribed fires) are included. This layer includes fires on Long Island in Blue Hill Bay. The NPS acquired conservation easements on a large portion of the island in 1995 and has been responsible for fire management on these lands since then. Three points in the layer appear to fall outside of lands currently owned by the National Park Service (NPS). One of them is on a privately-owned parcel that is within the Congressionally legislated park boundary established in 1986 (P.L. 99-420). For the other two, at the time they occurred, the land was part of Acadia National Park, but that land has subsequently been deleted in accordance with Public Law 99-420 and is no longer owned by the NPS. All records found for fires on Bar Island (Frenchman Bay) are included. The NPS did not own some of this land when the fires occurred, but they are included for historical reference because the NPS now owns the whole island.
