2-year study comparing life cycles of the endemic goby Lentipes concolor in a heavily-diverted stream on Molokai (Waikolu) and a relatively undisturbed stream on Maui (Makamaka`ole). In Makamaka`ole Stream, the population was reproductive all year round, with females spawning 2-3 times annually; timing of spawning coincided with high stream flow and was not seasonal. In Waikolu Stream, the reproductive pattern was more variable, and was not associated with stream flow. In Waikolu Stream, egg size was smaller and number of eggs per female was larger than in Makamaka`ole Stream, but female reproductive condition in Waikolu was lower than that in Makamaka`ole. Waikolu Stream experienced prolonged periods of low flow, which have occured since diversion of water for irrigation in 1960; Makamaka`ole Stream did not experience these effects.
