In recent years several authors have implied or stated that Eretmochelys imbricata may spend their entire life cycle on a single cay/reef system, thereby producing distinct color morphs by inbreeding. Torres Strait populations have been repeatedly noted in this regard. Present evidence indicates that long distance migrations occur and that if local demes exist, they are not well demarcated.
