Several important findings from this study of aquatic organisms in two Redwood National Park drainages are that present 'aquatic productivity is low..., benthic invertebrates rapidly recolonized the streambed following a major storm, and...man-caused disruption or sedimentation of the streambed during low flow can result in drastic reductions of the benthic-invertebrate community' [from the Abstract]. Separate sections describe the aquatic biology of bacteria, benthic invertebrates, fish, periphyton, phytoplankton, and seston (any particulate matter suspended in water). Because of their role as indicators of water quality, benthic invertebrates receive particular attention in the study and in the discussion at the end of the report. Includes maps of study areas; tables of morphological features of the creeks; details of sampling stations; data for fecal bacteria, taxonomic lists and occurrence of benthic invertebrates, periphyton, and phytoplankton (along with considerable related data for each); summary of fish inventories; and seston data.
