This report examines aquatic habitats of Gulf Islands National Seashore, Florida Unit (Ft. Pickens area) after the storm surge of Hurricane Opal (October, 1995). The study focuses on the storm's impact on 4 major natural ponds on the north side of the island. Significant saltwater intrusion, shoreline loss, and vegetation loss are reported within the study area. The report includes a number of black and white photographs, numerous GPS-generated color maps, and annotated lists of aquatic plants that are commonly found in barrier island ponds.
