A review of pertinant literature and research was done initially in order to develop objectives for an aquatic inventory of the Taiya River drainage. Literature review was combined with stream reach mapping, field verifications, maps produced by Alaska Fish and Game, low level arial photographs, and interviews with Forest Service personnel to identify priority areas for study. Minnow traps and nets were used in determined priority areas to assess fish species population and occurrence. The objective was to develope goals for monitoring and inventorying fish and fish habitat, with emphasis on the salmonid species. The 'slough' crossing in Dyea was found to be particularly rich in fry and warrants further investigation.
