The waters of the greater part of GRSM are not habitable by mollusca, other than some limpets (Ferrissia). A few tributaries of the Little Tennessee River have some pleirocerids (Elimia). Exceptions are Abrams Creek and the Little River at Foothills Parkway Bridge. Several species of pulmonates and the spaerid clam, in Abrams Creek, are imperiled by siltation. Four species of mussels, an Asiatic clam, are found below the falls. At the Foothills Parkway Bridge, 7 species of mussels and four of Pleuroceridae occur, their existence threatened by changes of water upstream.
