Response of Chihuahuan Desert Mountain Shrub Vegetation to Burning

Ahlstrand GM. 1982. Response of Chihuahuan Desert Mountain Shrub Vegetation to Burning. Journal of Range Management. 35(1):62-65

Compared the occurrence of various species on unburned sites and sites which had been burned 3 to 7 years earlier (all sites were in the Guadalupe Mountains). Describes conditions and relative amounts of many individual species and also lumps them together into groups for general conclusions (table shows percent burned and unburned for graminoids, forms & ferns, woody shrubs, rosette shrubs and stem succulents). Notes that over time, fire generally favors grasses at the expense of shrubs.
