The authors developed a forest ecosystem model with linear changes in temperature and precipitation and varied the degree of serial correlation around mean values as a way of assessing the effects of global warming on the boreal-northern hardwood forest transition zone in the Lake Superior region. The model used temperature and precipitation changes to predict changes in soil nitrogen, biomass, and forest succession in response to subsequent months of drought.
