Butterflies were collected in Lassen Volcanic National Park on various occasions between 1984 and 1987. A preliminary checklist of the 71 species found was prepared using "A Catalogue/Checklist of the Butterflies of America North of Mexico" by L.D. Miller and F. M. Brown, 1981, as a reference for nomenclature and systematics. 258 specimens representing 70 species were prepared for the park's archives. Six species previously unrecorded in the Lassen Park Region were sent to the Lepidopterist's Society for inclusion in their season summaries.
